The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

Baptism incorporates us into Christ and forms us into God’s people. It is the sign of Christianity and has a particular rite which is performed. Baptism is usually administered by the pastor in the church of the child and parents. Baptism is God’s most beautiful and magnificent gift. It is gift, grace, anointing, enlightenment, garment of immortality, bath of rebirth, seal and most precious gift. Martin Luther in the Small Catechism teaches us that baptism “brings about forgiveness of sins, redeems from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe it, as the words and promise of God declare”. This is the sacrament which opens the doorway for us as followers of Christ. We celebrate one’s faith within the context of our spiritual family knowing the waters of new life are forever.

Baptisms are usually celebrated at worship on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in receiving baptism for yourself or your child, please call the office (608)924-8621 to speak with the Pastor or email barneveldlutheran505@gmail.com.
